Designed by Jake Diaz from Have A Nice Day
Manufactured by CJRB Knives
Black PVD Coating/OD Green G10
My first of many production collaboration knife designs. The CJRB Fugly is a distinctly unusual knife but with proportions and comfort that makes for a perfect EDC.
A 90mm long blade with a low tip makes for a great utility cutter yet it floods up slim in the pocket.
Blade steel is CJRB/Artisan Cutlery’s proprietary sprayform AR-RPM9 which is similar to 9CR18MOV but with smaller, rounder carbides for improved toughness.
Why Fugly?
Fugly started with the name first so it needed a suitable design. Although not disgustingly obscene, Fugly is a mix of design ideas that are generally not used together but have been massaged to create something that is distinctly unusual.
I enjoy the small details like the gold thumb studs that don't align with the random bit of jimping and the blade stripes that don't compliment any other part of the design. The narrower pivot area that swells out down the handle works with the flat finger choil and pointed beak that makes it oh so comfy. These all just add to the fugliness of the knife but work so well together for a great edc knife with an extremely useful blade shape.
